The CatStrand

The CatStrand, Dumfries and Galloway’s newest arts and community venue, opened on Friday 21 September 2007 with a ten-day celebration of music, film, theatre, comedy and community events.

Programmed and managed by the Glenkens Community & Arts Trust, The CatStrand takes its name from the small stream that ran through, and now under the building. The venue incorporates a number of energy efficient and renewable energy components and has been named as "Scotland's Greenest Arts Venue."

The CatStrand is situated in the heart of New Galloway and is open 10:00am - 4:pm Monday to Saturday and 12:00 noon - 4:00pm Sunday.

The CatStrand:

  • A year round programme of theatre, music, comedy, storytelling, workshops, exhibitions, films and community events
  • The History Stop, a focal point to discover the heritage of the Glenkens, which will act as a signpost to various local sites of historical interest
  • High specification facilities for training courses and small conferences, including digital projection, sound and lighting systems, a fully equipped IT suite, meeting spaces, break-out rooms, public internet access and catering provision
