“The emotional impact is shattering and beautifully conveyed.” **** Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman.

Music: The Stu Brown Sextet: Twisted Toons - The Music of Raymond Scott

Sat 3 Aug 7.30pm £12/10

‘The man who made the cartoons swing’

The Stu Brown Sextet was formed in 2008 by drummer, Stu Brown, to celebrate 100 years since the birth of the little known band leader, composer and inventor, Raymond Scott, whose wacky, hyper-animated, eyeball-popping ‘cartoon jazz’ is most widely recognisable for its use in the Looney Tunes cartoons from the 1940’s onwards and, more recently, in Ren and Stimpy, and The Simpsons.

His manic, offbeat compositions, such as “Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals” and Square Dance For Eight Egyptian Mummies” are performed with zest and spontaneity by the drummer’s brilliantly orchestrated sextet.

“Wittily daft, exotic and swinging...Brilliant resurrection of 1930’s crackpot jazz” Mojo Magazine *****

Gold Award in Green Scheme

The Catstrand has been awarded Gold level (the highest status available) in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The report noted that:

The CatStrand does very well and maintains the prestigious GOLD level of award. The centre is much more than just an Art Venue ‐ It is a community hub, where locals and tourists are brought together. Art is showcased but their is also lots of local crafts, local books and excellent information on the many low carbon activities such as walks and cycle routes in the surrounding area. The venue has been involved in some of the Dark Skies initiatives that have taken place and continues to run the minibus service (with an additional bus). The site is still very green sue the wood chip heating system, high levels of insulation and modern refurbishment. Overall an excellent green venue and an example to others in Scotland.
