Glenkens Traditional Music Project @ The CatStrand

RSAMD Musicworks and The CatStrand are delighted to introduce the Glenkens Traditional Music Project @ The CatStrand, an unmissable opportunity within the Glenkens to receive top quality tuition in Traditional music and song.

The project including classes in fiddle, whistle, accordion and guitar is available to children from p4 upwards over a Saturday and Sunday. These tutorials will be supplemented with classes in song, storytelling, dance and group-work.

The RSAMD will also be running adult classes in these disciplines on a Friday evening. In addition they hope to organise an open session on Saturday nights which will give all musicians in the area a chance to join in the fun!

The tuition will be carried out by a combination of recent or past graduates of the RSAMD and current students on our BA (Scottish Music) course. Additional tutors will be renowned experts on their chosen instrument as well as being excellent teachers. There will also be training opportunities available for local musicians who feel that they may be interested in becoming tutors for the project themselves.

Details about the timings and fees for each workshop can be obtained by calling the RSAMD Musicworks Manager, Sharon Hassan, on 0141 270 8316 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

The CatStrand has a range of instruments available to hire at a very low cost. To find out more please call CatStrand on 01644 420374.

“The guiding principle of RSAMD Musicworks is to take music participation to people who would otherwise not have access to it, not through the RSAMD imposing what it perceives the community needs but asking local communities at grassroots level the question, “How can we help?” or by responding to the request, “Can the RSAMD help us.”
