Introduction

Welcome to Scotland's newest and most exciting contemporary performance and meeting space in the heart of the Glenkens community.  Called The CatStrand after the very small stream that used to run underneath it, the name also reflects the stream of activities that flow through it.

Not only does The CatStrand promote a varied music, arts and exhibition programme - it also boasts up-to-date training and conference facilities, offers local information and a cafe, and runs regular computer classes and exercise classes.  It is home to the CatStrand Cinema and there are plenty of things to do for both the younger and older members of our communities.  A central focal point for the whole of Dumfries and Galloway, the CatStrand welcomes individuals, groups and businesses wanting to hire fully equipped meeting rooms. The CatStrand aims to offer a range of high quality events, activities and facilities, with full disabled access, to suit every taste and every visitor - all under one roof.

Gold Award in Green Scheme

The Catstrand has been awarded Gold level (the highest status available) in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The report noted that:

The CatStrand does very well and maintains the prestigious GOLD level of award. The centre is much more than just an Art Venue ‐ It is a community hub, where locals and tourists are brought together. Art is showcased but their is also lots of local crafts, local books and excellent information on the many low carbon activities such as walks and cycle routes in the surrounding area. The venue has been involved in some of the Dark Skies initiatives that have taken place and continues to run the minibus service (with an additional bus). The site is still very green sue the wood chip heating system, high levels of insulation and modern refurbishment. Overall an excellent green venue and an example to others in Scotland.
