| About the Glenkens HistoryStop |
|
The Glenkens HistoryStop is a facility located in the CatStrand which will provide a fun and interesting reference point for everyone interested in local history – both residents and visitors alike. It will provide information about, and directions to, many of the leading history and heritage locations in the Glenkens. This will cover famous people like James Clark Maxwell and Alexander Murray, famous sites such as Bruce’s Stone and Cairn Edward and famous periods in history including the Wars of Independence and the Covenanters. Attractive collectable postcards will be available to buy which will contain information and maps on places of interest in and around the Glenkens. The History Stop includes an interactive computer where you can research historical sites and events, and a range of free leaflets and maps which will be available to help you explore. The History Stop aims to present The Glenkens in the wider context of Scottish history, the better to illustrate local relevance to our nation’s past.
The History Stop is a long-term project as the research volunteers will continue to collect information to add to the database. Anyone with an interest in the Glenkens can take part in the project, researching subjects of interest to them and contributing at a level with which they are comfortable.
