Bus Driver (PT)


Job Specification


Overall Role

This is a part-time seasonal role and is based on the contracted school run which is currently provided by Glenkens Transport Initiative on behalf of Dumfries & Galloway Council. Hours are dependent on the requirements of the specific school run but in the present school year the run is from New Galloway to Castle Douglas High School in the morning and then return at the end of the school day.


Specific Core Tasks

  • Driving bus for regular school run

  • Ensuring safety of passengers

  • Regular basic safety check of bus and report problems

  • Weekly cleaning of bus, inside and out

  • Completion of mileage logs and journey records

  • Re-fuelling bus when required

  • Liaising with GTI Administrator and Council Officials


Additional Tasks

  • Occasional additional driving tasks for schools within the school day

  • Occasional driving duties for other GTI User Groups throughout the year

  • Relocating and collecting buses as required for safety checks, servicing etc.



  • Must have a D1 entitlement on driving licence

  • Must have a satisfactory driving record

  • If current Minibus Driving Awareness Scheme (MiDAS) Certificate is not already held, then training will be given by our own MiDAS Trainer.

  • PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme) checks will be required



  • Core duties – Driving for current school service and other specific core tasks listed above @ £170.00 per week (During school terms only)


Additional duties at other times will be paid on an ad hoc basis at rates agreed with the hirer/GTI.
