Invitation to Tender for Project Coordinator of the ‘Inspiring Writers’ Project

Glenkens Community & Arts Trust Ltd is looking for tender proposals to coordinate our ‘Inspiring Writers’ project, which is a partnership project between CatStrand and the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership. The Project Coordinator will create and deliver a programme of events throughout the year in various locations, although will be primarily based at CatStrand in New Galloway.  They will also have responsibilities including supporting volunteers; allocating project budgets; reporting; and fundraising.   The role is budgeted for one day per week for a fixed term of one year initially with the potential for extension subject to funding.

The main aims of the Inspiring Writers project are to:

  • Empower and educate people to express their sense of place through the written word;

  • Foster a widening of the senses of ownership of, and belonging to, the landscape;

  • Help to identify features of the natural and built landscape which are particularly valued by inhabitants of, and visitors to, the area;

  • Encourage people to learn about and understand their relationship with the landscape;

  • Disseminate information about the Glenkens and Dee Valley as tourist destinations through the medium of poetry and poetic prose.

The main roles of the Project Coordinator will be to:

 

  • Coordinate and deliver a programme of events, workshops and other activities designed to encourage people who live in the Galloway Glens area, and those who come as visitors, to produce and publish poems and prose inspired by its communities and the environment;

  • Coordinate the publication of written/collected material;

  • Support volunteers, writers and participants;

  • Raise additional funds to support the project running costs;

  • Work within an allocated budget;

  • Work with the GGLP staff to create partnerships and share ideas with other Galloway Glens projects;

  • Evaluate the project both during and after each successive Phase;

  • Work with and report to CatStrand’s Creative Director.

 

Tender Requirements

The desired candidate will have experience of delivering small-scale arts projects and a demonstrable and varied knowledge of literature and its different forms.  The will also have good organisational skills; excellent communication skills; have experience of working with project budgets; and be both reliable and personable. Registration with the PVG Scheme of Disclosure Scotland is essential for the role but can be actioned prior to commencement.

The budget for this particular phase is up to £5000 with the contract lasting from November 2018 to October 2019, with remuneration monthly in arrears.
